Greener Karachi

Yes, that’s the campaign that kicked off prominently on Sunday, 16 November 2008, with planting trees opposite the City School PAF Chapter. The drive is part of the “I Own Karachi” mission initiated by the City District Government Karachi (CDGK), a method to making the people of Karachi realise their responsibilities and the obligation they owe to the city they call home.

The Greener Karachi campaign is sponsored by Crosby Asset Management Pakistan, in collaboration with the CDGK, and in my opinion is one of the most important moves to make the city less of a concrete jungle that it has lately turned out to be. Recently, we have also seen many parts of the city planted with trees, especially along the sides of renovated and new roads. I’m sure that it brings a good feeling to the citizens too, knowing that we will not crave for seeing some greenery across the city.

This campaign will be continued each week, and will involve other schools and organizations who would be collaborating with the sponsors, in planting trees in different parts of the city.

This campaign is being supported by the CDGK, TCF and Samaa TV, to name a few.

This campaign will now launch itself on the web, with its own website and regular updates to events, pictures, news and other information being regularly posted. Information on this effort will be provided soon.
