The subject of concern in the recent Bloggers Meetup held at the Royal Rodale here in Karachi was Activism. There has been increased concern lately about how we, the people who write and tell stories of our lives and what we observe, can tell a story about the true Pakistan.
Sponsored by Wateen, the meetup was called urgently, with a 2 day notice, to a closed group of no more than 30 people. Though a weekday, it was expected that the turnout may not be the ideal, and so it was, but I’m glad that most of the invitees did turn up, and participated very well in the discussions.
As expected, the discussions were both, political and non political, but adding these elements helps us see the true views of all people. We cannot say that just 30 people represent the views of almost all of Karachi, but more importantly, what we can do as a small group of people and individually, to change the views of our own people first about our country and its potential, and then also the views of the world.
Actions speak louder than words, as they say, it is time to turn the tables around. We should actively participate in marketing our country and our people in positive light, and not get into the daily scuffles of economic situations and selfishness. This attitude of ours is getting us no where, and that is a fact, smack right in our faces.
Though I wasn’t able to participate in the meetup myself, due to work at the office of course, Jehan Ara made it possible for most of us to participate and be aware of the discussions there via Twitter feeds. And I’d also add that today, technology has made it all possible. Previously Fariha Akhtar was actively adding value through live blogging, and surely, all these technological advances we see right before our eyes are making it so much possible for just about anything to do…
Act now… and be part of a solution for our country and our people… we are all ONE… if you cannot be solution, please step aside and not become a problem.
