Customer service at the root level

I’ve constantly found the need for people to be taught customer servicing. Its quite strange that despite us asking of others treating us properly, we ourselves tend to outdo how others treat us. This is quite disturbing.

In Pakistan I’ve experienced lack of customer service at a number of places. Especially small businesses, where owners or sales persons are least bothered if the customer goes away. They don’t feel the need to retain relationships.

I’ve seen a similar attitude from sales people at restaurant, stores etc here in Dubai too. Oh wait, worse was in Makkah and Medina, where no matter who the sales person is, he’d look at you with a sight that says “take it or leave it, cuz I don’t give a damn about you”.

My feeling is that either they face a whole lot of people who push them towards this disinterested approach, or they are themselves less caring. Either way, the basic principle behind customer service is that of old: “treat others as you would want to be treated”. If we remember this simple approach, I’m sure everyone will get what they want, without feeling that the other doesn’t care about you.
